THE STORY OF OUR WINTER APPLE
The apple component in Åhus Midvinter is a distillate made from Swedish apples. We source it from a tiny craft distillery called Norrtelje Brenneri, that specializes in apple distillates of all types. The species vary, but the distillate comes predominantly from “Aroma” and “Ingrid-Marie” , both well-known in Sweden.
Besides “Ingrid-Marie” and “Aroma” , the distillate is made also from apples without any commercial name. Norrtelje Brenneri buys assorted apples from a local man who has been working at nurseries and bred some of the apple trees experimentally, producing ongoing diverse fruits that change with each harvest.
